Ithaca's Pick-up Scene

Ithaca pick-up follows two season. One season runs from thaw to freeze at Cass Park. The other season runs from freeze to thaw at Cass Park. Okay... so they basically never stop. Rain, snow, heat... no matter. When 27 inches of snow dropped on New York in one day in 1996 closing the postal service, people were playing pick-up at Cass Park. To get a better taste of this insanity, come out and play! You can get up-to-the-minute information by joining the pickup mailing list. And now, you can join the women's pickup list!

Ultimate Schedule (updated 5/25/2010)

Pickup schedule is back to three days a week. Please check the pickup list for up-to-date information.

Wet Fields: Because fields can be wet or recovering we may change the fields we play on. Please check the pickup list for up-to-date information.

Note on times: This is Ultimate. People are late. If you're there on time and nobody shows, give it half an hour, people will likely trickle in soon!

  • Buttermilk fields: From Ithaca, follow route 13 South. Take the first left after the main entrance to Buttermilk Falls, onto Sandbank Rd. If you cross the bridge, you've gone too far.
Coming into Ithaca on 13 North, take the first right after the exit to 13A (right after the bridge).
Buttermilk Falls State Park has changed their parking policy this year. They will charge a fee of $7 for parking in the lot next to the fields up until 7:30 pm. Do not park on Sandbank Road or you will be ticketed and/or towed. An Empire Passport will grant you unlimited access to all of the state parks including Buttermilk and Taughannock all year. They are $59 and you can get them here http://nysparks.state.ny.us/passport/ You can bike in for free, or park at the Home Depot parking lot and walk if you don't feel like paying.
  • Cass Park: Fields are located on the northwest side of downtown Ithaca at the edge of Cayuga lake, just off of Route 89. Cass Park has an ice skating rink as well as a pool and is located on the right while traveling north on Route 89.
  • Union Fields: Fields are located similarly to Cass Park, except these fields are on the left while traveling north on Route 89.
  • Stewart Park: Located at the tip south eastern tip of Cayuga Lake, just off route 13 and route 34. Take 13 to Stewart Park exit, just at the bottom of the big hill going up along the lake. If you are going south on 13, you go straight at the end of the exit ramp into the park. If you are going north on 13, you turn left at the end of the exit ramp, then left again, then turn right into the park. Once you cross the railroad tracks into the park, you turn left at the T, and follow the road all the way to the far end of the park past the tennis courts.
  • Ramin Room: Indoor green room adjacent to the Lindseth Climbing Wall in Bartel Hall on Cornell University campus.
  • Northeast Elementary: Take 13 North to Triphammer (the Triphammer Mall exit). Turn Right onto Triphammer and go about 3 intersections down to Winthrop. Turn Left on Winthrop and follow it through a residential neighborhood until the school appears on the right.
  • Ithaca High School: Located between the northern end of Cayuga Street and Lake Street. DDC Fields are just south of the football stadium/track along Lake Street. Ultimate fields are located along Cayuga Street. Look for flying discs.
  • North Campus: These fields are located on Cornell's North campus, Cradit Farm Rd. near Helen Newman Hall.
